VSMC Grand Opening Ceremony

VSMC Grand Opening Ceremony

VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (VSMC) celebrated the grand opening of its first 300mm semiconductor fab in Singapore on 28 September 2026, marking a significant milestone in the company's journey and the continued growth of Singapore's semiconductor ecosystem.

The ceremony brought together customers, suppliers, partners, industry associations, residents, government officials, and executives from VSMC, VIS and NXP. Invited guests were also given an exclusive tour of VSMC's state-of-the-art 300mm manufacturing facility.

The grand opening marks the culmination of VSMC's efforts over the past 22 months, from groundbreaking to the successful processing of its first sample lot. The achievement reflects the strong collaboration between VSMC, its shareholders, partners, contractors, suppliers and stakeholders who supported the project from concept to operation.

VSMC's fab adopts a fully automated smart manufacturing model, integrating artificial intelligence and digital management technologies to enhance operational efficiency and customer service quality. The facility supports process technologies ranging from 130nm to 40nm for applications across high-performance computing, mobile, automotive, industrial and consumer markets.

At full capacity by 2029, the fab is expected to produce approximately 44,000 12-inch wafers per month and create around 1,600 jobs. The facility will further strengthen Singapore's semiconductor ecosystem by supporting innovation, fostering collaboration and creating new opportunities across the advanced manufacturing value chain.

During the ceremony, key speakers, including VSMC and VIS Chairman Leuh Fang, NXP President and Chief Executive Officer Rafael Sotomayor, and Minister of Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Tan See Leng, highlighted the importance of the facility to both Singapore and the global semiconductor industry. They underscored how the fab strengthens Singapore's semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, enhances supply chain resilience, and supports the continued growth of the global semiconductor ecosystem.

Speakers also emphasised the broader impact of the facility beyond manufacturing. Through collaboration with educational institutions, industry partners and government agencies, VSMC is expected to contribute to talent development, strengthen industry-academia linkages and create opportunities for suppliers, service providers and technology partners across the semiconductor ecosystem. The facility also reflects continued confidence in Singapore as a trusted global hub for advanced manufacturing and semiconductor innovation.

As VSMC embarks on its next chapter, the company looks forward to working closely with customers, partners, employees and stakeholders to drive innovation, advance sustainability, develop talent and create long-term value for Singapore's semiconductor industry and the global semiconductor ecosystem.
