On 18 September 2026, VSMC joined seven Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to commemorate IHL Partnership Day and reinforce a shared commitment to developing the next generation of semiconductor talent.
During the event, VSMC signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with its academic partners: Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Institute of Technology, Singapore University of Technology and Design, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic.
The partnerships bring together three universities and four polytechnics to strengthen collaboration across education, industry and innovation. VSMC and the participating institutions will work together to co-develop and enhance curriculum content and learning modules in line with evolving semiconductor manufacturing practices. They will also explore applied research and innovation projects focused on real-world challenges in semiconductor manufacturing. The collaboration will give students greater opportunities to gain industry exposure through learning journeys, internships and full-time careers in technology, engineering, automation and quality assurance.
While the MOUs formalise the collaboration between VSMC and its academic partners, the true impact of these partnerships is reflected in the experiences of the interns, fresh graduates and professionals who benefit from opportunities to learn, contribute and grow through industry exposure.
At the event, several speakers highlighted the important role that mentors and colleagues play in supporting their personal and professional development. Guidance from experienced professionals helped them build confidence, resilience and problem-solving skills—capabilities that continue to shape their careers. Others shared how internships and early-career roles enabled them to apply classroom knowledge to real-world situations. Through hands-on projects and exposure to industry practices, students and fresh graduates gain a deeper understanding of how technical knowledge is translated into practical solutions.
Similar perspectives were echoed by other interns and early-career employees who attended the event. Many spoke about how industry exposure helped them better understand the semiconductor sector and the wide range of career opportunities it offers. They also highlighted the value of learning practical industry knowledge, workplace tools and processes alongside hands-on experience. These opportunities help prepare them for future internships and careers while strengthening their confidence to pursue a future in the semiconductor industry.
VSMC remains committed to developing and nurturing talent across the semiconductor sector. The initiatives taken with partnering institutes of higher learning help ensure that classroom learning remains closely connected to the technologies, capabilities and needs of the semiconductor industry. By giving students and graduates meaningful opportunities to work on real-world projects and contribute to the sector, VSMC and its academic partners are helping to build a stronger, more future-ready semiconductor workforce.
